YOBO IS BACK

Nigeria's manager Stephen Keshi has decided to recall former Everton defender Joseph Yobo to the national team squad for the upcoming match against Mexico.

This is one of the few friendly matches Nigeria have before they take part in the World Cup. Group along with Argentina, Iran, and Bosnia, Nigeria have a great chance of reaching the knockout stages. Argentina are expected to be the overwhelming favourites to win the group, but the second qualifying spot is there for the taking. Keshi wants to make sure that he has the best squad in order to do the job.

This has meant that the 33-year-old Joseph Yobo has been recalled to the national team. He is the second most appearance maker for Nigeria with 93 caps to his name.

He has not played for the national team since the African cup of nations in 2013. This may not be the final squad since Keshi has called up a few in experienced players as well. They are yet to make their national team debuts, but they will be hoping to impress the manager and get into the plane at the last moment. One of the major absentees from this squad has been Stoke city striker Peter Odemwingie.

Yobo has been in fine form for his current club Norwich.
"I've always said Yobo is my captain and he'd be recalled when needed so people shouldn't be surprised. This friendly against Mexico will give us a chance to look at some new players before our final World Cup camp. We are hoping to give everyone a chance to show what they can add to the team. It is important to emphasis that the Super Eagles door is not completely closed on anyone," said Keshi. Nigeria have won four out of the last five matches in all competitions.
