Super Eagles of Nigeria player Semi Ajayi has been one of the consistent performers for West Brom this season as the Baggies continue to struggle on their return to the Premier League after a two-year absence. The Nigeria international continued his good form for the Baggies as he helped his team to a valuable point during their league trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.

West Brom produced a rearguard action especially in the second half of the game to battle to a 1-1 draw against their hosts who had been expected to thrash the Baggies due to the quality in their team. Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Semi Ajayi was crucial to the result as he produced nine clearances and two blocks to prevent Manchester City from running riot against his team. His centre back partner Dara O'Shea and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone also played their parts in the impressive draw. West Brom shot stopper Sam Johnstone denied Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling from close range in the final minutes of the game as Manchester City stepped up the game in their quest to get the three points.

Super Eagles of Nigeria star Semi Ajayi produced his biggest moment of the match when he capitalised on the uncertainty in the Manchester City defence to force Ruben Dias into an own goal two minutes before the end of the first half. His shot was going out before it was diverted into the back of the net by the Portuguese player. It was a merited equaliser for the Baggies at that stage of the game after hosts Manchester City had taken the lead on the hour mark through the aformentioned Gundogan. The German international scored his first league goal of the season off an assist from England national team player Raheem Sterling.
It was two points dropped for Manchester City at the end of the game but the point was still enough to move them into the top six on the league table, while West Brom stay second bottom but significantly move to within two points of Burnley who occupy the last position outside the relegation zone.
