Nigeria Should Be Careful and Humble, Claims Rohr
Nigeria national team boss Gernot Rohr says that it is imperative that the national team remain calm even as they are very close to securing a place in the World Cup 2018.
The national team managed to get a 1-1 draw against Cameroon in the latest qualifying match. This is an extremely important result with the team only having a single match in the October qualifiers. Nigeria take on Zambia in the next qualifier on October 7. This will be followed by an away match against Algeria in the final qualification campaign. Nigeria have been able to take a stranglehold in the group B after going unbeaten in the four qualification matches.
Zambia are the closest team to Nigeria and even they are three points behind Rohr’s team.
Even though Zambia were able to close the deficit down to just three points, the team to depend on Nigeria dropping points. There is a big possibility of Zambia coming level on points with Nigeria – albeit with a much lower goal difference – if they win the next meeting in October.
Hence, qualification is still not wrapped up and anything could happen in the campaign, according to Rohr. Nigeria have been able to recover from a poor African Cup of Nations championship in order to resume the World Cup qualification stages in a proper manner.
Rohr claimed that he was happy with the result against Cameroon. "We are happy about the result, but it's not done entirely. We must stay humble and do a big fight against Zambia, who also have a very young team.Let's be careful, let's work, and I hope the spirit of this team will be the same as the last two games. If we get a good result against Zambia we can celebrate, but we have to stay humble," said Rohr.
