FLYING EAGLES SEE OFF BURUNDI

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria got their U-20 African Cup of Nations campaign off to a flying start courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 victory over Burundi, in what was a frantic affair all through.

We endured a drab first half of the game; with both sides struggling to create any major openings for the first 45 and the nerves were beginning to set in.
Nigeria were particular guilty of being complacent, failing to really cut open the Burundi defense as they continued to toil all afternoon.

However, the game sparked into life in the second period, as the Flying Eagles of Nigeria scored both of their goals to send them to the summit of Group A.

Nigeria are now in full control of the group and you get the feeling that it will take something really special to defeat this team. They asserted their utmost dominance against Burundi and their opponents must have been wondering how many hours the Nigerian players put into training.

It was striker NazifiYahaya that sent Nigeria ahead in the 55th minute before Effiom Maxwell added gloss to the score line just 12 minutes later. It was a cracking goal and the fans looked delighted to see that one go in after some slick passing in midfield.“The Flying Eagles deserve some praise for the win because Burundi are known to be a very strong team“. They waded through three rounds of qualifiers to land in the U-20 “finals in Niger Republic“.

On the road to Nigeria, Burundi hammered the Ethiopians 3-0 on aggregate before pushing the Sudanese national team aside in a frantic 3-1 win. They also trounced Zambia by the same 3-1 score line to book their place in the finals.
Nigeria will be looking to make it two wins from two when they take on South Africa in their second group game on February 6.
