Super Eagles of Nigeria player Emmanuel Dennis was named the best player after he scored once and assisted two goals for Watford on the way to the 4-1 demolition of sleeping English football giants Manchester United when the two teams met at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Nigeria international Dennis was the catalyst for the big home win over the Red Devils and the product of the defeat was significant for Manchester United after the club sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their manager.

Watford were the better team against Manchester United and they could have scored more than the two first half goals recorded if not for the combination of poor finishing and smart goalkeeping from Spanish international David De Gea in the Manchester United goal.

Hosts Watford had the chance to score inside the first ten minutes when Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay was penalised for a foul in the Manchester United box, but IsmailaSarrcould not punish him despite taking the resulting spot kick two times due to encroachment. Senegalese international Sarr would later make up for the penalty saved by De Gea with the second Watford goal with a minute left in the first half and off the assist from the excellent KikoFemenia at right-back. The goal from Sarr doubled the Hornets’ lead which was given to them by Norwegian international Josh King on 28 minutes off the assist from Nigeria player Dennis. The goals from King and Sarr ensured that Watford led 2-0 at the break.

Manchester United were lackadaisical in their approach to the first half, but that changed at the start of the second half as the tried to get back into the game. Dutch substitute Donny Van De Beek proved to be the catalyst for the fightback from the Red Devils as he pulled a goal back five minutes into the half off the assist from star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

The hopes of pulling a draw or a win diminished for Manchester United when skipper Harry Maguire was sent off for two bookings on 69 minutes. Nigeria star Dennis then provided the third Watford goal for substitute Joao Pedro in the second minute of stoppage time before he scored the fourth goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time to wrap up a memorable 4-1 win for his team.

Nigeria player Dennis has now scored four goals plus five assists in 11 league games since his summer move from Club Brugge in the Belgian league. He was named the man-of-the-match at the end of the game.
